Pushing Past the Stereotypes of Body Building

Thirty years or so ago, Arnold Schwarzenegger was a champion body builder but there is far more to the sport of body building than simply trying to make your body look like his did back then. Most people think that body building is about increasing your muscles to outrageous sizes. The truth is that body building is more about building the strength of your muscles than it is about building up their appearance. There is a lot more to it than “getting ripped.” It is about increasing your health. If you are thinking about putting together a body building routine for yourself, here are some hints that will help you. Don’t forget that the key to body building is becoming healthy first and then getting pretty later.

No bodybuilding workout is complete without a healthy and balanced diet backing it up. This makes body building like every other workout that is out there. If you really want to be healthy, you need to eat a diet that is healthy and balanced. This means that you should not eat junk food but should eat grains, fruits and vegetables. Steer clear of chemicalized ingredients and high fructose corn syrup. These won’t help your muscles at all. When you workout you are basically tearing down your muscles and then letting them build back up–healthy foods are key to making sure your muscles can do just that.

There are going to be days when your body works well and days when it does not. Be ready for this. In fact, having a varied exercise schedule helps with this because it allows you to plan out some “easy” days that will give your body a break from the rest of the “hard” days that you take on. It is okay to have days when your body simply won’t work as well as you want it to work. Allow your body some time to rest, something it probably needs, and then go back to your regular intensity another day. If you get too stressed out you could risk injury or make your situation even worse.

Some of the major body building individual exercises include military presses, push ups, pull ups, dead lifts, curls, lunges, leg curls, squats, side laterals, barbell curls, hanging leg raises and all of the other types of exercise that most consider “normal” like running, biking and swimming. You should always have someone do the exercises with you even if you are very good at all of them. When you do your lifting, you should always have a spotter especially on those days that you increase your weight limit. Trying to lift without having a spotter handy is dangerous because you will need someone to help you if the lift you do becomes too hard for you to do on your own.

Everybody can do body building. Focusing on your health is easier when you are getting into shape with body building. For some people body building is more than a hobby, it is a career! You do not have to be as dedicated to the activity but if you stick with it you could find that you rather enjoy the way your body feels and looks. If you set reachable goals and use your common sense you should be able to greatly improve your health with body building!
